How is Polanski's case any different from this, and why should he
receive a lighter sentence?

"banned from working with children for five years"

so in five years time, he can work with children? but surely it'll be on
his crb check and therefore not be employable?

Yes.

In theory, he could be employed working with children after that.

But nobody is going to take the risk when that shows up on his CRB
check.

Except that by 5 years time, it will all be the ISA and the "barred
list" - which he will presumably come off once that barring expires.

The guy is 76 years old now. I say let him be and let live out his final
days
and die in peace in Europe.
