A better question would be ...

"Why did she feel she had to kill the little girl?

I spent a few years in the wilds in Ireland (the free state). There was
a case of infanticide and people there were very understanding, coming
up to the (former) mother at the funeral and giving her a hug and
kissing her.

Here they'd be baying at the door with burning tar and pitchforks.

They do that here regardless of guilt.

To save her own sorry skin after the little girl had served her
purpose.

It didn't stop her from trying.

She killed the girl, because she had little else to lose and a
possibility of gain. Ms Huckaby is not the only recent example.

That is what draconian judicial systems and uninformed and extreme
societal responses lead to.

The USA are masters at creating such systems, which lead to these
outcomes.

We, thus far, have almost avoided them.
